The Basilica of the Assumption, Erie Pennsylvania, incorporates significant details of historical churches from the one thousand year Byzantine Empire. Most important is the unity of these details, none of them stand alone, they are combined to produce a tradition which is Architecturally and Theologically perfect.

Details derived from Hosios Loukas Monastery built between 946 - 955 A.D., located at Phocis, outside of Athens; St. Sophia, Justinian's Jewel of Constantinople, completed 562 A.D.; St. Demetrios Basilica of Thessaloniki built in the middle or second half of the fifth century.
